A magnificent and very unusual ivory locket necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous piece is made of hand-carved ivory?and has a large oval-shaped design. Both?sides of the locket are smooth with a beveled frame, and a matching fluted bail is attached?at the top. The locket opens to reveal space to store a special photograph inside behind a glass frame. The locket hangs from a?wonderful chain made of carved ivory beads, which are hand strung on white thread. The chain fastens with a twisting screw clasp at the back and matches the locket design perfectly.?A?magnificent and unusual?piece from the Victorian era, and would make a special?addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately?2 1/4" long (including the bail),?1 3/8" wide and is 1/2" thick. The beaded ivory chain measures approximately 25" long, with each bead measuring about 2.5 mm in size.
Condition: The overall condition of the ivory locket and chain is excellent. Besides minimal normal surface wear,?there are no apparent chips or scratches in the?ivory, and the locket hinge is in good working order. Due to the age, the locket does gap slightly in the opening. The ivory beads in the necklace are all intact, and the clasp is secure and in good working condition.
